It is hard to believe that our academic year is winding down. Graduation and promotion are right around the corner! The month of May is a busy month at HMS and PVHS, students will be taking state tests, AP exams, finishing up course work, and of course, enjoying the spring weather.
The past two years at Hichborn Middle School and Penobscot Valley High School, we have been focusing on building our community. While much of this work has been limited to inside the building, this month we will be taking our efforts outside of the building. On Thursday, May 16, after testing has been completed, students will be participating in volunteer opportunities around the school, throughout town, and at Enfield Station School. Volunteering will occur between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. This volunteer effort is a way of helping students connect with their community. Students will be helping clean up the Memorial Garden, walking through town picking up loose trash, cleaning up the rec fields, reading to elementary students, and many other exciting opportunities. After the volunteering, students will return to HMS/PVHS for lunch and some fun activities!
While we hope that all students will participate, we understand there may be concerns from students and parents. If you do not wish your student to participate or would like more information, please call either school office and let Mrs. Batchelder or Mrs. Moon know that you would like to opt your student out of the volunteer day. We will have staff that remain at the school to supervise these students in the library.
We are excited about giving back to our community and are hoping for a beautiful day!
